Welcome to Mama’s Golden Dining Room – an evening filled with flavor, warmth, and connection.
For the fourth year in a row, Mama opens her home and invites you to the table – not just to eat, but to experience. Here, lentils, beans, and vegetables are transformed into vibrant dishes full of depth, character, and love – from silky, creamy daals to crispy bites with a spicy kick.
This is more than just a meal – it’s a sensory journey into the vegetarian cuisine of Punjab, where every ingredient is treated with care and intention.
Around Mama’s table, there’s room for curiosity and conversation. You’ll see the food come to life before your eyes – and if you’re lucky, Mama might even share a few of her secret tricks. Because in Mama’s world, a guest is a blessing – and that’s exactly how you’ll feel from the moment you walk in.
Your host
My name is Una – a passionate foodie – and together with my mother, Rubina, better known as Mama from Mamasdaal, we’re spreading daal joy across Denmark.
Mamasdaal started as a joke: Mama used to say she wanted a hot dog stand on Nørrebro where she could serve daal chawal – daal with rice – the ultimate comfort food from her roots. Her family and friends laughed at the idea, but as the saying goes: there’s often a grain of truth in every joke. And while the hot dog stand never happened, something much bigger did – something beyond our wildest dreams.
We made our debut at Street Food om Søerne in 2022, finishing in the top 3 for the audience award. Soon after, we became finalists in the Danish Street Food Championships, again placing in the top 3 – both with the public and the jury. Later that year, none other than Claus Meyer visited Mama’s Golden Dining Room in Hvidovre, where we host weekend Home Dining experiences. The chair he sat on is now affectionately called Claus. He opened new doors for Mama, who now teaches her cooking at Meyers Madhus.
But Mama didn’t stop there. In 2024, she won the Sol over Gudhjem Product Award for her homemade apple chutney – made with apples from her own tree in Hvidovre. But it was a visit from Mette Mølbak, food editor at Politiken, that truly brought the dream of a cookbook to life. Over a bowl of daal, we shared our vision – and soon after, we were connected with Muusmann Publishing.
Now, Mama’s first cookbook is well underway and set to launch this summer.
