"The Camino to Santiago de Compostela without blisters and grumpy socks."

Presented by Frederiksberg Vinhandel

Storytelling and 6 top wines

Join us for a brief but sensory journey along the Camino as we taste our way through the wine regions of Rioja, Bierzo, Valdeorras, Ribera Sacra, and Rias Baixas.

Nowadays, hiking has become very fashionable. Everywhere in nature, there are people with hiking poles and boots ready to tackle any challenge in any terrain. It's only natural that this hobby has been elevated to a higher level, embarking on the great journey of the Camino, which can be considered the ultimate hike of them all.

During my wine tours to Northern Spain, I've noticed that at times there are so many walkers, or pilgrims as they're called, that there's often a massive, albeit holy, queue. The Camino has simply become so popular that it almost sustains the economy of the regions it passes through. If you go to a tavern, you'll struggle to find Spaniards, but instead, you'll have to get used to the smell of countless pilgrims' sweaty socks and worse. However, there are also other, more appealing scents you may encounter along the way, especially if you choose to be a wine pilgrim. That's the way I've taken the Camino several times, although many puritans might argue that I've done it in the most hedonistic manner. I don't know if this makes me a sinner, but I've transported myself in an automobile, made stops at the best restaurants, and my senses have enjoyed the noble and refreshing crops of the vineyards.

Not to brag, but even with this unathletic method, one can sense the energy flowing from Santiago's bones out into the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, and all the way to San Sebastian. Make no mistake, he has also had a hand in cultivating wine. Countless monasteries, bearing witness to the constant presence of monks and nuns through the centuries, welcome pilgrims on their journey, no matter where they tread. The Camino is a space for introspection and spiritual connection, where all excess is stripped away. The monks from Burgundy, who were the first to walk the Camino, not only graced the land with their almost otherworldly choir singing under the cathedral's arches but also taught the local population the noble art of winemaking. Because one must remember, monks and wine have always been intertwined, and that is precisely what this tasting is about. We will savor our way through the Camino, and we can even do it on Frederiksberg Allé!

We have chosen the Camino known as El Frances. It starts in the Basque Country in Navarre and ends 40 km from the Atlantic Ocean in the holy city of Santiago de Compostela.
