The Story:
Vinimondo is located in a 400-year-old warehouse at Overgaden Neden Vandet 19A. We have an intimate and atmospheric showroom where we hold exclusive Masterclasses with space for only 20 people. We warmly welcome all guests and guide them with our extensive expertise and passion for wine.
The FRASCA winery is driven by a star-studded team, including Mateo Gerbi, who previously led the Barolo producer Bruno Giacosa.
Frasca La Guaragna was established in 2018 in Piemonte's Nizza Monferrato by Curtis Frasca (NYC) and the renowned winemaker Matteo Gerbi. Curt is Italian-American (his grandfather was born in Italy) and lives in New York. After a successful 20-year career in the music industry, Curt left to find a new way to express his creativity through gastronomy and wine. Curt’s deep love for Piedmont's wines, especially the Barbera grape, led him to Nizza Monferrato, where traditions, people, landscape, food, and (above all) wine come together uniquely.
Matteo Gerbi, born and raised in a small village near Asti, is the winemaker. For many years, he was the cellar master and responsible for the wines at iconic producers in the Langhe region (including Bruno Giacosa and G.D. Vajra), with the dream of one day making great wines in Nizza Monferrato and especially showcasing the true potential of the Barbera grape.
When Curt and Matteo met, they realized they shared the same vision: to create something new together, quality-oriented and respectful of people, traditions, and the environment, and to highlight the unique terroir in this small corner of Monferrato. Matteo and Curt chose to buy 22 hectares of vineyards around Nizza Monferrato out of nearly 250 hectares they visited in less than a year. Already the following year, in 2019, they harvested, and their first vintage was created.
"La Guaragna" is a historic "cascina," where the new winery will soon be built, with a particular focus on sustainability. The philosophy is simple: only fruit grown on the estate, environmentally friendly vineyard management (certification for integrated farming), manual harvesting in crates, and a striving to make balanced and elegant wines where the primary fruit and grape identity are always the qualitative focus, but with the potential to age gracefully... The main cultivated grape variety is Barbera (about 75% of production), with the rest of the production based on other varieties such as Arneis, Riesling, Grignolino, and Freisa.
